NORTHWOOD HEIGHTS HOMEOWNERS ALLIANCE COMMITTEES

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Chair: C. Nunley

Members: M. Holmes, C. Madere, F. Money, J. Mullins, P. Nunley (jpn8470@dcccd.edu), C. Oliver, T. Petrin, M. Upshaw

Your executive committee met at 7 PM, July 10, 2007. Members attending included: C. Nunley and M. Holmes, J. Mullins, P. Nunley (jpn8470@dcccd.edu), C. Oliver, T. Petrin, and M. Upshaw

Since other responsibilities have precluded J. Mullins from exercising the Crime Watch duties of the Sargent-at-Arms, he delegated that responsibility to T. Petrin. As chair of the Crimewatch Committee, T. is now a member of the Executive Committee. Since it was necessary to change the name of our organization in order to meet the requirements of the Texas Secretary of State, we now must make amendments to our bylaws. P. Nunley made the motion to admend the bylaws to comply with our State charter. After discussion, M. Upshaw seconded the motion, and it passed unanamously. J. Mullins offered a motion to amend the bylaws to extend the term of office of the executive committee members. T. Petrin seconded the motion, and after discussion the motion passed unanamously. The communications committee was charged with indicating the proposed changes on our website. These admendments will be presented for vote at the July 17 general meeting of the organization.

The communications committee reported development of four operational systems of communication available to members of our community: printed newsletter, a website (pithecus.com), a google group, and a telephone Alert Hotline (214-261-5370). Expense for the latter item was authorized at the April meeting of the Executive Committee, and request for reimbursement was submitted to the Treasurer. P. Nunley stipulated that the newsletter would be prepared for distribution by Thursday, 12 July, and M. Upshaw agreed to see to its distribution the following weekend.

Video surveillance systems were again the subject of discussion. Our institutional member, Presbyterian Village, is in the process of upgrading and extending all their security systems. To compliment their efforts, P. Nunley made a motion to buy and install as many as five (5) appropriately worded signs at strategic locations in the neighborhood. J. Mullins seconded the motion, and after vigorous discussion about appropriate permissions, placements, and aesthetics, the motion passed unanamously. T. Petrin and J. Mullins were charged with the necessary arrangements. In addition to the large signs, C. Nunley moved that the Alliance offer to pay for small (12"X18") signs suitable for mounting on fences be offered free of charge to members. After spirited discussion, T. Petrin seconded the motion which passed by unanamous consent.

Treasurer M. Holmes addressed the matter of reimbursement. Since our funds are deposited it a credit union account without checking priveleges, reimbursment will be by cashier's check. Consequently, requests for reimbursement must include receipts and should be submitted to the Treasurer well in advance and only during either a General or Executive Session. M. Holmes moved that flowers and plants not to exceed approximately fifty dollars ($50.) will be bought and delivered by F. Money and/or C. Nunley in order to realize a savings and also to personalize the commeration. After discussion, the motion was seconded and passed without dissent.

It was proposed and everyone agreed to host a "Night Out" event on Saturday, September 22. F. Money and C. Nunley are in charge of planning for this event.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM.

Minutes recorded by P. Nunley.

COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE

Members: C. Nunley, C. Oliver

Your communication committee remains mindful of privacy concerns, we continue to make appropriate efforts to balance the need for effective and timely communication without becoming intrusive. It is not our intent to publish personal information.

Our organization's new website, pithecus.com, is still a work in progress, but has proven to be an excellent way to convey information about our neighborhood as well are the greater Dallas area....Keep tuned.

We also have a very useful Google Group....F-S-S-Neighborhood Watch. If you are getting email notices from this group, you are already a group member. If you aren't already a group member, please email C. Oliver (Cheryl_Oliver1@msn.com) or P. Nunley (jpn8470@dcccd.edu), and you will be added. This is potentially one of the best communication means we have...and, thanks to Google, it's free! To report a crime or a suspicious activity, first report it to the Dallas Police at 911, then call 972/238-6297 to report it to our Crime Hotline. The message will be posted to the hotline within 24 hours. We now have a crime alert hotline (214-261-5370) to which members can call to get the latest announcements concerning crime related events in our neighborhood. Watch for yellow ribbons on posted signs to alert you to call the hotline.

Your communication committee encourages all members to submit articles to be considered for publication. Decisions for publication will be made by the communications committee or the executive board. We will continue to publish a printed version of the Newsletter in an abbreviated format and a much more detailed and informative web based version.
